Weekend treble for Wylie Hall
Wylie Hall had a quick double on Saturday, with his son El Patron saluting in Mauritius, and daughter Tequila winning at Turffontein on the same day.
Trained by Paul Matchett, three-year-old Tequila got off the mark when the Michael Leaf bred filly ran out a neck winner over 1800m at Turffontein on Saturday afternoon.
Tequila, who was dropping back in trip for Saturday’s maiden win, is out of the Fort Wood mare Princess Aura.
Wylie Hall claimed his third winner over the weekend, when his son Lord Wylie romped home to break his maiden over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday. The three-year-old Cheveley Stud bred gelding scorched clear in the closing stages to run out an impressive one and a half length winner. Second on his previous start, Lord Wylie is out of the Argonaut mare Dieu Te Garde.
Winner of both the G1 SA Derby and G1 President’s Champions Challenge, Wylie Hall made a smart start to his stud career with his first crop yielded exported G3 Protea Stakes winner Twilight Moon and the talented pair of De La Cruz and Wylie Wench.
