Legislate relative makes a winning debut
The Cheveley Stud bred and based champion Legislate gained a further boost to his stellar female line when his close relative Padre Pio made a winning debut at Greyville on Sunday.
Trained by Dennis Bosch, and ridden by Anton Marcus, the Vercingetorix sired 2yo Padre Pio stamped himself a promising sort with good debut effort over the weekend.
Padre Pio, who is out of the Jet Master mare Polar Jet –whose third dam Classic Art is also third dam of the four time G1 winning Legislate, ran on smartly to score a first out 0.6 of a length win over 1400m as the 21-20 tote favourite.
The colt was a R500 000 buy from the 208 April Yearling Sale.
South Africa’s Horse Of The Year in 2013-2014, Legislate himself made waves at Sunday’s Cape Yearling Sale, when his son Hoedspruit made R280 000 –making that Legislate son the sales’ top priced colt.
One of the very best sons of recently deceased outstanding sire Dynasty, the record breaking Legislate (who had four Equus Awards to his name) has five yearlings on offer at April’s Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
The champion’s draft includes a filly (Lot 72) out of a G2 placed daughter of Captain Al, a filly (Lot 220) out of SA Oaks runner up Star Safari, and a filly (Lot 306) out of G3 Prix du Cap winner Bridal Lace.
