Legislate relative impresses
Cheveley Stud’s multiple G1 winning sire Legislate made a very promising start with his first-two-year-olds last season and the former Horse Of The Year gained a further boost to his stellar female line when his close relative Lion’s Head bolted up at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday.
Sired, like Legislate, by Dynasty, the Drakenstein Stud bred Lion’s Head followed up two good placings in his first two races with a dominant performance on Sunday.
Under jockey Keagan De Melo, the Dean Kannemeyer trained colt romped home to shed his maiden by over three lengths, while stamping himself an exciting future prospect in the process.
Out of the stakes placed Trippi mare Se Agabor, and a half-brother to Equus Champion, and G1 Thekwini Stakes winner, Gabor, Lion’s Head’s fourth dam Classic Art (by Jan Ekels) also ranks as the third dam of Legislate.
This is also the family of last season’s high-class three-year-olds Silver Operator and Padre Pio as well as G1 Thekwini Stakes winner Roxanne.
South Africa’s Horse Of The Year in 2014, the four time G1 winning Legislate made a pleasing start with his first runners last season including impressive winner Speed Machine and the stakes placed filly Veronica Mars.
