Trainer Justin Snaith has set the 2019 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate as a possible long-term target for Legislate after the big horse strode out fluently to win a Barrier Trial over 1000m staged at Scottsville on Wednesday.

Legislate looked beautiful on parade after two years off the track and took everything, literally, in his stride for an impressive showing under jockey Richard Fourie, who commented: “He felt like a dream!”

A visibly happy Justin Snaith said: “I never thought in a million years I’d be saddling Legislate again. I just couldn’t work out who loved his return more, the horse, the public or I. He absolutely loved being back with ears pricked.
“You get good horses and you get champions, and you get horses like Legislate. I’m just so happy to have him back”.

Snaith also indicated that the Rising Sun Gold Challenge on June 9 is a possible first proper race for Legislate. He has also been for the Vodacom Durban July, a race in which he emerged the victor after a battle with Wylie Hall in 2014.
