The pictures below tell the whole story. I have a few observations to make: In all of my 38 years in this industry I have never seen a more unpopular and controversial award than the one made this year in the Champion 2yo Filly category. I was so sure that the Cape Champion Carry On Alice (who trashed the colts in Gr1 SA Nursery) would win. My second (and very close) choice was Same Jurisdiction. These two were also the favourites in the poll conducted by the Sporting Post. It’s entirely appropriate that we congratulate Vaughan Koster on achieving two Horse Of The Year awards in 2014 and we are delighted that we bought both of them as yearlings at the sale. The Chevely-bred filly Equina is Zimbabwe Horse of the Year and the three year old Dynasty colt Legislate scooped three awards including the ultimate accolade. Dynasty took five awards including Outstanding Stallion Achievement and his daughter Beach Beauty was crowned Champion Older Mare. Champion Breeders, Klawervlei, were a very popular award as well. Huge celebrations from Snaith Racing. A magnificent achievement!! Well done guys. Markus Jooste was acknowledged by two awards, including Owner of the Year and a Special Achievement award. Bob Yearham and his team at Emperor’s Palace, the Racing Association and the various sponsors put on a fantastic show. We had tears in our eyes watching the incredible War Horse strut his stuff. Those puppeteers make him look so real. That big konk on his head reminded me so much of London News.
